Playing with geometric shapes, thoughtful detail solutions and multifunctionality are the characteristic features of the young label CasieLiving, founded by Frankfurt designer Carmen Siebold. For her collection, Siebold uses local handicraft businesses to manufacture the children's furniture and home accessories. In her creative works Siebold pays special attention to the fact that materials and surfaces are particularly suitable for children, inviting them to play and be creative themselves. Her designs integrate aesthetically thought-through solutions into the everyday life of families.

Charlie Crane, based in Paris, offers a carefully edited collection of furniture for babies and children. Founded in 2013 by Thomas Lépine, the ambition is to create beautiful designer furniture that breathes adult design into the world of the child.

Charlie Crane has a truly editorial approach. We work first and foremost with designers. This new French generation values the tradition of technical excellence - especially that of the French pioneers of the 1950s (Prouvé, Perriand, Hitier...) - allied with an openness to many foreign influences. In particular, the Scandinavian design of the 1950s and 1960s and the recent Vegetal Design.

Charlie Crane favours noble and natural materials such as bentwood which permits the sculpting of complex shapes and gives objects roundness. A soft feel, ideal for children. This technique also has the advantage of being much more precise than assembling individual pieces of wood, which makes it possible to manufacture excellent quality pieces at an affordable price. We should also mention metal, especially tubing, which again makes it possible to fashion complex and rounded shapes. For several seasons now, Charlie Crane has been collaborating with other companies, textile houses, to mix up the influences. They include Little Cabari, My Moumout and, in the future, Le Petit Lucas du Tertre.

Product: Kollektion COCLICO – Kindermöbel inspiriert nach Montessori

Elise Opezzo-Burger has been working on the design of a new collection of children's furniture with which it went on the market in July 2017. Together with her husband, Steffen Burger, and industrial designer Olaf Schroeder, she developed a furniture line inspired by the Montessori philosophy. Their idea gave rise to the company COCLICO, derived from the French Coquelicot (poppy). The basic idea is that children have areas in every room of the common apartment that they can design independently. "What if the interior design at home was completely rethought? What if the interior design is not just for adults, but that everyone has a place in every living space?" Independence, movement, order and aesthetics are basic principles of Montessori education, which are reflected in the furniture.

Product: ecoBirdy kid's collection

ecoBirdy is a new brand that creates unique ecological design furniture items. The first collection of furniture and home accessories for kids is 100% made of recycled plastic from European waste and entirely recyclable again. A speckled look made out of colourful pieces of recycled plastic toys gives a special touch to the collection and makes every single piece unique. The Antwerp-based designers have not only created design pieces, but a whole system from the collection and recycling of old, unused plastic toys to the design and production of the furniture. With the design of an accompanying storybook and school-programme ecoBirdy wants to introduce youngsters to the circular economy and inspire them to contribute to a more sustainable future.

matoi GmbH combines tried-and-tested educational toys with High-tech

Nowadays, even very young children play in virtual realities; it is not unusual that they can type and swipe before they can even walk. However, it is proven that play in the real, tangible world is vital for brain development. On the other hand, digital technology and the ‘Internet of Things’ open entirely new play experiences. The founders of ‘matoi’ are themselves both mothers and combine educationally valuable wooden toy concepts with high-tech to offer ‘Digital Slow Toys“.

The company matoi

matoi GmbH was founded in the autumn of 2016 as a start-up in the heart of Germany by Kerstin Rudat und Anissa Wagner. Their idea of „Digital Slow Toys“ became more and more concrete during several successful contests: i.e. Winner of the Rhineland-Palatinate Idea Competition; Business plan contest in the Greater Region Luxemburg; and recently named as „Culture & Creative-Pilots“ by the German government. The founders have already further projects in the pipeline to grow their product line after the launch of imagno Farm.
